In this session, we trace the history of law and conflict through some major events: from the 1868 St Petersburg Declaration to the establishment of the International Criminal Court, Palestine’s recent accession to the ICC, and the Court’s ongoing investigation into the post- election violence in Kenya.
This session will explore both the limitations of laws that aim to reduce excesses of war, while demonstrating the way in which the evolution of these laws might challenge how we think about international relations more broadly.
