Understanding Your Home

We all have a home. Even the “homeless” people who gather under a bridge have a place to which they return daily to a familiar setting with familiar faces. We spend at least half our lives in our homes: resting, relating, loving, eating, sleeping, playing. Despite the centrality of home in our daily lives, we have very little conscious knowledge about why our homes are the way they are, how they work, or how to make them work for us. This course helps to close that gap in our understanding, and to make participants active shapers of home and home life. In each session, we will mix historical and analytic narratives about the home with an exploration of our own homes. The intention is to develop both a theoretical and a lived understanding of home, the forces that shape it, and the way it shapes us.  ABOUT THE PRESENTER >>** **DAVID WEEK is an architect with a broad intercultural experience of how people use their buildings. He has won numerous awards, worked as an adviser to AusAid, the World Bank, and the Fred Hollows Foundation. He has worked in Australia, East Asia, the Pacific and Africa.
